What Virginia buyers ask most
Who decides if a dog is dangerous in Virginia?
A general district court, after an officer applies for a summons (Va. Code 3.2-6540). The Commonwealth must prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.
Can breed alone make a dog dangerous?
No. The statute says an animal may not be found dangerous solely because of its breed.
What must an owner do after a dangerous finding?
Per 3.2-6540.01: secure enclosure, signs, leash and muzzle outdoors, at least $100,000 liability coverage or bond, spay or neuter proof, electronic ID and a $150 fee.
What is the maximum dog license tax?
Section 3.2-6528 caps it at $10 a year, or $50 for a lifetime license; localities set the actual rate.
Is there a leash law?
It depends on the locality. Arlington County requires leashes off your property; Fairfax County allows unleashed dogs only in fenced dog parks.
How long can I tether my dog in Fairfax County?
The county says no more than one cumulative hour in 24 unless an owner directly supervises, with fines up to $500 for a first violation.
Can I take my dog to a Virginia state park?
Yes, on a leash no longer than six feet, but not into public facilities, yurts or swim areas.
Does Virginia require shade for a dog outside?
Loudoun County says Virginia law requires adequate shelter from heat.
Does K9PN sell dogs?
